Young children like to explore. So a chain operated roman blind can be very interesting for a child, with awful consequences. It is therefore important, when choosing a roman blind, to consider whether it is child safe. Of course, Forest have thought about this.
Forest Group has several options to make your home or workplace a safer environment, such as a control unit, snap cord fixer and a safety mounting box. Read more about these childproofing solutions below. Our BS® Child Safety components have been extensively tested by a reputable agency and comply with the European child safety standard and come with a certificate. The Child Safety components can be recognised by our Child Safety label.
Our Child Safety control unit prevents children from getting entangled in the chain/cord control. When more than 6kg is hanging on the gear wheel, it will automatically release, preventing suffocation. The gear wheel also complies with the safety standard so that children cannot swallow it.

Snap cord fixer clips ensure easy mounting at the bottom of the blind, but can also lead to situations in which a child becomes trapped. The Child Safety snap cord fixer clip prevents this. It releases as soon as a child of 6 kg or more is in danger of becoming entangled in it.

The Cord Chain Safety Box is a fixed tensioning system and shall prevent the chain loop from becoming slack. This shall be achieved by fixing the device at the maximum distance from the control mechanism. The control chain must be placed at a distance of at least 60 cm from the floor.
Step 1) Position the tension wheel (item A) in a proper position that allows the ball chain to go through the pulley guide as indicated in the picture. Ensure the ball chain is entirely lowered, stretched and tangle free. Mark the position.
Step 2) Drill a hole and insert the wall plug. Screw the device to the wall (item B).
Step 3) Place the ball chain through the pulley guide and click the wheel down to put tension in the chain (item C).
To avoid strangulation and entanglement, keep the cord/chain out of reach of young children
Move beds, cots and furniture away from window covering cords
Do not tie cords together. Make sure cords do not twist and create a loop.
